1. Library break-in

Police said an unknown suspect broken into Spuyten Duyvil Library on sometime between the Nov. 5 evening closing and Nov. 6 morning opening.

Employees told police they locked the doors at closing time but returned to find locks and a door damaged and opened.

Police said no property was stolen, but the burglary case remains open to detectives.

2. Unsuccessful robber flees

A 26-year-old man was almost the victim of a robbery on the corner of Independence Avenue and West 235th Street around 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 5, according to police.

They said an unknown suspect brandished a knife and demanded the victim’s phone. When the man refused, the perpetrator fled east towards the Henry Hudson Parkway. 

The case is still open to detectives.

3. Drunk driver arrested

Police said they arrested a 42-year-old woman for driving while intoxicated on Van Cortlandt Park West on Sunday.  

Around 5 a.m. that day, the woman was seen driving a 2011 Dodge sedan whose headlights were missing as a result of major damage to the front of the vehicle.  After officers observed the driver make an illegal U-Turn and stopped her, they found she had strong odor of alcohol on her breath and bloodshot eyes. 

The woman later was submitted to a Breathalyzer exam, which put her blood-alcohol level  above the legal limit at 0.08.

The case is closed to detectives.

4. Drunk driver dozes by precinct

Authorities said a 38-year-old intoxicated man fell asleep at the wheel of his car in front of the 50th Precinct building on the corner of Kingsbridge Avenue and West 236th Street on Nov. 5 around 5 a.m.

The perpetrator was asleep inside his 1999 Nissan Altima at a stop sign, with the engine still running and the vehicle left in drive.  

A Breathalyzer test found the man had a 0.12 blood-alcohol level. He was arrested and the case is closed to detectives.

5. Car vandalized

Police said on Nov. 6 at 11:45 p.m., a roughly 27-year-old white man was observed throwing a fire hydrant cap into the rear window of an unoccupied 2002 Ford Escort. 

The victim, a 33-year-old woman, had her car parked in front of 5750 Mosholu Ave. at the time. 

Police arrested the susepct and the criminal mischief case is closed to detectives.
