Little League kicks off its season in a big way

After postponing the parade a week, the North Riverdale Baseball League took to the streets with banners, balloons and flags on April 14 to kick off its season.

Delightfully balmy weather punctuated an otherwise erratic spring, making for a perfect opening day.

Elected officials joining the young athletes included U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz and state Sen. Jeff Klein.

Little League teams converged on Sid Augarten Field in North Riverdale where the Dodgers’ John Zarnitzky threw the first pitch to raucous applause.
