Mr. Mayor: Stop ignoring Bronx greenway

Posted

To the editor:

On April 25, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced plans to dedicate $100 million to build an esplanade for pedestrians and cyclists in the East River between 61st and 53rd streets. It’s a major step toward completing the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway, which will eventually encircle the entire island.

He further pledged that this will be the first of many big investments to bring the full greenway to reality.

Heartening news that Manhattan will get its 32-mile waterfront greenway completed. So how about the three miles of greenway along the Hudson River in the Bronx?

Mr. de Blasio stated that “the Hudson River Greenway has vastly improved the quality of life on the West Side, and we want families in every corner in the borough to have that same access to bike, walk and play along the water.”

Yet at the town hall meeting he posted at the IN-Tech Academy this February, when asked about aiding in the creation of the long-planned Hudson River Greenway in the Bronx, Mr. de Blasio stated that he had not heard of the idea.

He added that it was now on his agenda, and he would pursue the issue further.

Come on, Bill.

How about now? Here’s another opportunity to show us you’re mayor of all New York City, not just Manhattan.
