New tools for NYCHA residents

NYCHA residents tired of being left out of the loop over problems and repairs in their buildings no longer have to feel that way.

The New York City Housing Authority is now providing up-to-date information on heat and water service through a new online tool located at NYC.gov/NYCHA.

It joins other tools like a digital map tracking NYCHA’s construction projects, as well as more detailed information related to energy and sustainability at the authority’s properties.

Although NYCHA already outlines various capital improvement projects online, the organization was asked by Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams to make the spending of that $1 billion budget more transparent. NYCHA attempted to do that with a map that outlines every NYCHA project across the city by development. 

Nominate volunteers for CB8 award

Community Board 8 is accepting nominations for its annual Community Service Award.

Established to acknowledge various volunteer efforts of groups and individuals, the award is given to someone who donated time and energy to improve or enhance in some way the quality of life for those living and working in the CB8 area. Nominations are open to individuals, students and organizations, or groups with an interest in the community. 

Entries must include the name of the person or group being nominated, contact information — address and phone number — a description and nature of the volunteer work, and its resulting impact on the community.

Nominations can be sent to Community Service Award Committee, Bronx Community Board 8, 5676 Riverdale Ave., Suite 100, Bronx, N.Y., 10471.

Deadline for nominations is March 30.
