LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Our political machine history

To the editor:

When the Benjamin Franklin Reform Democratic Club held its endorsement meeting for the 2014 Democratic primary for governor, Andrew Cuomo’s principal club supporters made the shockingly false accusation that his then primary opponent, Zephyr Teachout, was an anti-Semite. (Before that meeting, the principal purveyor of this dirty lie had been Cuomo’s closest buddy in the state legislature, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who is coming up soon for sentencing for taking millions of dollars in a bribery scheme.)

Another strange thing happened at that 2014 meeting. There was no representative present for the Teachout campaign. When I privately questioned the then club president about this at that time, he assured me that she had been invited by letter, but she must have overlooked the letter. I now doubt that any such letter ever existed.

If I am wrong, please send The Riverdale Press a copy.

Funny how history repeats itself with corrupt people like Andrew Cuomo. He recently had to walk back a false allegation of anti-Semitism made by his political cohorts against his 2018 primary opponent Cynthia Nixon. His excuse? It was “a mistake.”

In yet a third recent political embarrassment, when Nixon called him out for scheduling a bridge bearing the Cuomo name to be dedicated just before the primary (the event had to be canceled for safety reasons) he had the chutzpah to accuse her of politicizing a situation!

Fortunately, Cynthia Nixon is on the November ballot as the Working Families Party candidate for governor, and a vote for her is available to rebuke him for his dishonest “experience.”
