Police seek man in connection with attempted rape

Posted

After an elderly woman reported an attempted rape near Kingsbridge Heights, police want to locate a man they think might be connected.

It was in the early morning hours of June 5 when a man reportedly snuck up behind a 73-year-old woman walking along Reservoir Avenue toward West 195th Street and pushed her to the ground, police said. He muffled her mouth with his hand, sexually assaulting her.

Yet, the woman managed to fight back, struggled free and screamed for help, forcing her would-be attacker to run.

Police have released a video of a man they'd like to talk to in connection with that attack, but did not provide a description. In the video, the man is walking in front of a building, wearing what appears to be a football jersey and a winter cap.

The video is available here.

Anyone with information on this man can call the New York Police Department's Crime Stoppers hotline at (800) 577-8477, or submit tips online by visiting NYPDCrimeStoppers.com. They also can text tips to 274637, and then entering "TIP577."

All calls, police say, are strictly confidential.

This story was updated 6/14 at 6 p.m., to correct the year of the attack. The originally posted year, which was erroneously provided by the New York Police Department, was incorrect.
