Public schools closed Thursday

Posted

It's not clear how bad the weather will be Thursday, but New York City public schools are not taking any chances — schools are closed, along with all after-school programs, adult education and sport activities.

Schools are expected to reopen on Friday, including all scheduled programs and activities.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning beginning Thursday at 1 a.m., and lasting until Friday at 1 a.m. for New York City and southern New York state. It's expected to include heavy and blowing snow of between 5 and 8 inches, creating "difficult" travel conditions, especially during morning and evening Thursday commutes.

Wind gusts are expected to reach as high as 50 mph.
