Stopping the Trump train

To the editor:

After the recent election, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s not a Trump locomotive.

I can breathe again.

Virginia’s governorship was an especially sweet win. Ed Gillespie, a relatively moderate Republican, twisted himself into a xenophobic alt-right Trumpster because he thought that’s what he had to do to win the election. The good people of Virginia taught him otherwise.

To borrow the campaign slogan from New Jersey’s newly elected Democratic governor, the people of Virginia said “We are better than this!”

Of course, we must not be so happy we become complacent. The fight has just begun to make America dignified again, the land of hope again, a land where neo-Nazis and Klansmen are not comfortable marching in the streets with torches and guns and yelling “Jews will not replace us” and other hateful slogans, because they feel they have friends in the White House … again.

So you won Virginia. Big deal. It was expected anyway, so it's not the sweeping sea change you are making it out to be. In fact, the last election was pretty banal. Democrats won where they were expected to, and you ultimately gained nothing.....except in the world/mind of the discredited legacy/establishment/fake media. You know that world, don't you? A world where Hilary is good and never committed a crime and where Obama is the savior of humanity. It's also the world where Trump had no chance of winning the presidency. How's all that working out for you?

Ms Binder, I would like to remind you once again that Trump vociferously denounced those idiotic so-called Neo-Nazis in Virginia, and while he did it, he also denounced the incredibly violent and Nazi-like Antifa protestors on the left, who unlike the former, had no legally aquired permit to march.

Keeping on with your lies about Trump and his so-called "white nationiist base" is the height of folly and will backfire on you greatly in 2020. Why? Because it's a false argument. Trump won because of his populist message, which after 100 years of Democrat and Republican globalist government destroying our nation seemed like a real breath of fresh air. All the Democrats had to counter was a corrupt, old, ill and fossilized identity politician whose only claim was that she was a "woman." Those kind of politicians are not going to win you anything in the future.

You'd better get down to the business of choosing a candidate next time that is heavy on the USA and light on the LGBTQ. Flyover country is sick to death of you, and yet your side is still too elitist to give that any thought.

Just to correct what was presented as a factual point in the comment:

The counter-protesters in Charlottesville (i.e., the ones who were not the KKK and neo-Nazis), actually did have a permit for two parks on Aug. 12, 2017 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., and was a short walking distance from where the KKK rally was.

In case you were wondering, the KKK and neo-Nazis actually didn't have a permit. The city tried to have them protest in a different park, but they went to court, and were allowed to be where they were via a court order, not a permit.
