Support weapons ban

I applaud Eliot Engel for traveling to Parkland to participate in the March For Our Lives, for his letter to The Riverdale Press praising the students in the demonstrations, for his support of the assault weapons ban, and most of all, for the thousands of our wonderful students who have said “enough!”

We Americans who agree with Rep. Engel must band together to support the congress people who support the ban to loudly condemn those in Congress who accept bribes from the NRA. They are complicit in the horrendous shootings which have taken place in our schools.

The NRA has dangerously and purposely misinterpreted the Second Amendment. The writers of the Constitution knew nothing about assault weapons, and they would be appalled at how the NRA twists the Founding Fathers’ words.

I, for one, would not want to own a gun. It takes hours of instruction and practice to use a gun, and is not to be taken lightly.
