Trump shows his true colors

To the editor:

In his feeble reaction to the extreme violence of the KKK and neo-Nazis against peaceful protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, Donald J. Trump has shown his true colors.

For those who could not see his romancing of the so-called “alt-right” (prettied-up moniker for racists and anti-Semites) during his campaign, open your eyes!

He called for peace on “many sides.” Their side came to march wearing helmets, carrying guns, large sticks and shields. One committed the terrorist act of driving a car into the crowd, taking a life, and seriously injuring many others.

And he sees all sides are equally culpable in the mayhem which ensued. David Duke, former head of the KKK, was very honest when he openly acknowledge that’s why they voted for Trump.

No one should be surprised. He is the first modern-day president to openly bring members of the “alt-right” into the White House to be his trusted advisors. For at least seven years, he hounded President Obama with the racist lie that he had “proof” the president was born in Kenya. Thus eventually causing the first president of color to “show his papers” to the country and the world.

He continuously used words like “incompetent” to describe President Obama, while describing Vladimir Putin as “smart.”

Since being elected, he has had an obsession seemingly bordering on the psychotic to dismantle every single achievement of the former president.

A quick internet search will reveal Trump’s history of racial discrimination. He and his father and their real estate company were sued by the federal government in 1973 for refusing to rent to African-Americans.

I unreservedly and without hesitation lay the horror at Charlottesville squarely at the feet of Donald J. Trump. He went dog whistling through the graveyard, thereby resurrecting and emboldening neo-Nazis, the KKK, and every white supremacist hate group in America where they now know they have a friend in the White House.

America must consider this: Donald Trump has been in office for only a few months, and has continually poked the feral bear in North Korea, putting the world on edge, and is now threatening to invade Venezuela while armed racists waving confederate flags storm the streets of an American city emboldened by his presidency.

How much worse can things get before the good, decent people of the United States of America — who are in the overwhelming majority — say, “Enough!”

The universe will not forgive us if we stand by and allow 1930s Germany to happen here.
