Want change? Then get to the polls

I write to thank The Riverdale Press for its improved coverage of politics.

In this politically tumultuous year, many who thought they had a grasp of politics found out that what they knew something about was national politics. I have had more than a few people tell me that, in local elections, they vote Democratic without thinking.

The Press is helping us get a handle on what The New York Times mostly ignores. Learning about candidates for state senate, for the Assembly, and for judgeships is problematic, and we need the local press to fill the gap.

As The Press pointed out recently, there will be a primary for the state senate in the long, skinny, gerrymandered district held by Sen. Jeffrey Klein. There is an interesting opponent, Alessandra Biaggi, and The Press wrote a little about this primary recently.

One thing I do know about our elections in the Bronx and Westchester is voter turnout is low. I wonder if the anger and helplessness many feel in the time of Trump will change this.

I hope so.
