What is Cremation?

Posted

When cremation was first introduced in the United States in the 1860s, it was obscure and rarely

practiced. However, as of 2015, cremations outnumber traditional burials. On Saturday February 24th, Green-Wood hosts an afternoon for attendees to find out more about this ancient custom. Death educator and funeral director, Amy Cunningham will explore cremation’s history and twenty-first-century revival, as well its impact on the future of funerals. This engaging, and sometimes light-hearted, presentation also offers attendees the opportunity to visit the crematory with Green-Wood’s Crematory Manager, Gema LaBoccetta.
