After residents of Kingsbridge and local electeds held rallies against the International Leadership Charter High School’s proposed middle school, supporters of the school held their own rally May 10 at the 306 W. 232nd St. construction site. It was led by chief executive and founder Elaine Ruiz-Lopez, Parents United for the International Leadership Charter School and the Black, Latinx, and Asian Charter Collaborative. Some rally-goers spoke to residents via bullhorn across the street.

A $2.5 million facelift of Van Cortlandt Golf Course and clubhouse was completed in 2014 and many, including Debra Travis, parks committee chair, trumpeted its improvements and restoration. As of recent, the clubhouse had break-ins. The 50th Precinct could not confirm if police reports were made. As of now, the windows are boarded up.

With the help of Lloyd’s Caribbean family recipe, Llyod and Betty Campbell-Adams opened a carrot cake bakery. After Lloyd’s death in 2007, Betty quit her job to work full time at Lloyd’s. Since then she has expanded the business with nationwide and international shipping available.

50 Years on the Job

Building relationships simply by repairing one kitchen at a time

Felix Lam has been the superintendent at 2465 Palisade Ave., in Spuyten Duyvil for 50 years. The 81-year-old has made his home — and career — at the eight-story co-op since he was a young man. And how does that make him feel? “I’m very happy about it,” Lam said.
