The forecast was not pretty, but that didn’t stop the 800 or so high school cross country runners from taking the course at Van Cortlandt Park for the Manhattan College Invitational. For the top performers, the rain may have been the extra refreshment they needed to rapidly navigate the 2.5-mile course. The lasting memories of the 51st annual event were all in all good. more
The Manhattan College men’s soccer team has emerged as the team to beat in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Jaspers have won their first five conference games and currently sit a half game back of Iona for the top spot in the standings. more
For a little over a year, the College of Mount Saint Vincent soccer and lacrosse programs have been able to call the Athletic Field at Marillac their home. The addition of the turf field, which overlooks the Hudson River, is part of a movement from the current administration to make athletics a priority for the future. more
Manhattan College athletics are off to a slow start in the Fall season as non-conference play soon gives way to the conference schedule. The cold stretch for both men’s and women’s soccer teams and the volleyball team has led to only one team victory with nothing else to show for yet. more
The Manhattan College women’s basketball team has been a tough out in recent years in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. They showed it again with a 73-39 win over Rider last Saturday. But unfortunately, they found an even tougher challenger in the Fairfield Stags, who hung an 82-58 loss for Manhattan on Monday night. more
The Bronx Basketball Hall of Fame ’s second annual induction dinner and ceremony on Nov. 2 at Villa Barone Manor in Throggs Neck drew around 450 people to honor the 16 newest members. more
The night-capper for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference semifinals round pitted Manhattan College men’s lacrosse against a team they had yet to figure out this season. Ultimately, this year’s runner-up, the Siena Saints, got the last laugh at Gaelic Park, winning 11-8 and proving to be road warriors at the expense of the top seed Jaspers. more
With two weeks left in the regular season, Northwest Bronx public school baseball is almost ready to venture into the playoffs. For now, teams are playing out the final games of the regular season, going head-to-head to see who the best really are, until the real test comes in late May. more
Several local cricket leagues and clubs have sent out a letter to Mayor Eric Adams and Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson regarding the proposal of a 34,000-seat cricket stadium in Van Cortlandt Park as part of a plan for hosting the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup. more
