14th Annual UNICEF Snowflake Ball

Posted

What:

Celebrating its fourteenth year, the UNICEF Snowflake Ball is one of the most notable galas in New York City. Presented by Mariner Investment Group, this year's event will kick off the holiday season and raise funds in support of UNICEF’s work to save and improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children.

Nine-time Grammy Award winner, twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, legendary musician Sir Ringo Starr will receive the George Harrison Humanitarian Award for his longtime commitment to humanitarian and environmental causes. In 1971 Ringo joined George and Ravi Shankar at their historic Concert for Bangladesh to raise funds for UNICEF, underlining his dedication to the world around him. Olivia Harrison, Founder of the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF and wife of the late George Harrison, will present this great honor.

Fourteen-time Emmy Award nominee and Peabody Award winner, Desiree Gruber will receive the Spirt of Compassion Award for her service on the UNICEF USA New York Regional Board. Gruber is a fierce advocate for children everywhere and works tirelessly to ensure every child has a bright future. Kyle MacLachlan, actor best known for his role in Twin Peaks and husband of Gruber, will present this prestigious award.

The evening will feature a special performance by nine-time Grammy Award winning artist Sheryl Crow and the event’s live auction will be hosted by Kate Chertavian. Additionally, the décor will be designed by UNICEF Ambassador Vern Yip. After Party to follow, hosted by UNICEF Next Generation with music by DJ Nicole Rosé and DJ Timo Weiland.

Why:

UNICEF works in more than 190 countries and territories, helping save more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization. UNICEF does whatever it takes to put children first – last year, UNICEF responded to 337 humanitarian emergencies in more than 100 countries. Since the inaugural UNICEF Snowflake Ball in 2005, the annual event has raised $34 million for UNICEF's lifesaving programs.

During the event the UNICEF Snowflake will be illuminated at the intersection of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue, serving as a beacon of hope and compassion for children around the world. Designed by Ingo Maurer with 16,000 Baccarat crystals, the ornament was dedicated to UNICEF in 2002 by the Stonbely Family Foundation.
