Another weekend without the 1 train

Posted

It looks like the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is going to provide another "fun" weekend for anyone looking to get to Manhattan from this neck of the Bronx.

For yet another weekend, the MTA will shut down 1 trains between 96th Street and Van Cortlandt Park-242nd Street  because of ongoing track and switch maintenance at 137th Street. The shutdown begins at 11:15 p.m., on Friday, and lasts until 5 a.m., on Monday, July 8.

That means the 1 train will only travel between South Ferry and 96th Street all weekend.

Shuttle buses will once again be available, as will the M3 and M100 buses, as well as the A and C trains out of the Washington Heights area.

Buses will run along four routes. Commuters can use the A to nearby stations via transfer at 59th Street. They also can use the 168th Street shuttle bus to the A train, or the 207th Street shuttle bus to the A. There is a separate shuttle bus running between the A and 1 train stations on Dyckman Street.

Bx7 buses running through Riverdale and into Kingsbridge ultimately travel down Broadway, with stops that coincide with the A train.

The MTA has not said how much longer such work will continue, but the authority has now closed this section of the 1 train for a weekend or overnight during the week at least a half-dozen times so far this year.
