Posted

José Alberto Martinez, 56, died unexpectedly in the company of his family on Aug. 11, 2019.

Beloved by all who knew him, he is survived by the mother of his children and one true love, Annette; his daughter and son Ashley and Tristan; his mother, Amanda; and older sister, Karelia.

He was the best father that his kids could’ve ever asked for. He is leaving behind so many people who love him.

Born in Cuba on March 19, 1963, he moved to Miami when he was 4 and stayed there through his college years until he ultimately signed with the Minnesota Twins to pursue his dream of playing professional baseball.

After many successful years playing baseball, he moved to New York where he started his family with his wife, and began coaching baseball. His strength and loving nature touched so many hearts, young and old.

Through his passion as a coach, he helped so many young players find their own power and confidence.

He will be missed every day, and leaves behind many grateful souls that were changed because of him.

He will always be with us.

Services will be held Friday, Aug. 16 at 10 a.m., at St. Gabriel’s Church, 590 W. 235th St., Bronx, N.Y., 10463.
