Care about our immigrants, too

The Point of View by Alvin Gordon is an affront to the hard-working immigrant community living in constant fear of their families being separated by the current extremist white nationalist administration.

These people have not been “seduced,” as Mr. Gordon claims, into coming here. No one risks their lives or their children’s lives traveling hundreds of miles through treacherous land, escaping violence and extreme poverty, on a lark.

Our country is currently violating not only the mandate to give due process to asylum seekers, but is clearly violating human rights on a grand scale at our border. There is no doubt that the immigration system needs a major fix, which probably can’t happen until the current administration leaves.

In the meantime, we citizens need to fight for human rights in whatever way we can.
