Careful with words

To the editor:

(re: “Fair observation of mental illness,” Sept. 5)

“Even on good news, the portrayal of the mentally ill tends toward the overly dramatic.”

For all the reasons I would editorially avoid “the” blacks, I would editorially avoid the above. Neither intends to inform.

The portrayals “the” mentally ill and “the” blacks intend disinformation.
