To the editor:
(re: “Hidden costs of transit,” Sept. 16)
In a recent letter, Larry Penner states how cost estimates for major transportation projects such as Gateway access, the Port Authority bus terminal and the Second Avenue subway rise year after year for a variety of reasons.
Fair enough.
However, the author has had opinion pieces circulating in favor of reopening the Hilton corridor/Gimbels passageway, including one in 2014 where he pegs the cost at $150,000. Yet in another opinion piece six years later, there is magically no increase in the cost estimate.
How is it that when the author is against a project, the devil is in the details? Yet, if he is in favor of a project, none of the pesky details matter?
