For the past six months, I’ve been fortunate to serve alongside Councilman Eric Dinowitz in the city council. In his short time since taking office, Eric has proven to be a thoughtful, hard-working colleague, and a worthy addition to the city council.

Eric joined the council in April, as the city council and mayor were midway through negotiations on the city budget. Despite the narrow timeline, Eric was able to secure funding for projects in his district, including funding for the full redevelopment of the stairs at Ewen Park, where I stood with Eric on many mornings during the campaign.

He also has allocated funding toward essential services, such as after-school cultural enrichment programs, food pantries, and upgrades for North Central Bronx Hospital.

As a parent and educator, Eric’s background has been valuable as the city discusses remote learning, school reopening, and the array of issues facing the public schools. And I am confident that he will be a strong voice for parents and teachers in the coming years as we navigate challenging issues facing the public education system.

Most importantly, Eric brings a rare quality to political life: A willingness to collaborate. A thoughtful approach to governance. And a desire to learn from others.

In the age of political polarization, Eric’s approach is a refreshing change of pace to what we normally witness in politics.

For all these reasons, Eric doesn’t just represent the values of his district, but he represents the values of so many families throughout the city.
