LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Drivers needs to really beware

Posted

Editor, The Press:

I pulled into the parking lot behind the bagel shop on West 235th Street on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 23.

When I got out of my car, a young man with long black hair came over to me and said I scratched the side of his car, which was parked next to mine.

There was indeed a small scratch. He asked me for my insurance information and driver’s license, and took photos of them with his cell phone. I asked him for his information, and he suggested maybe we could just settle this with cash.

I phoned my husband to come over. Shortly thereafter, an employee from the beauty salon came out and shouted that the other car was not his. At this point, the would-be scam artist ran away.

We called 911 and two officers from the 50th Precinct later arrived. They listened to the story, but said no crime had been committed, so they would not take down a report.

People should be on the lookout for this person.
