To the editor:
President Trump, the national Republican Party, and the national conservative news media all have a lot of nerve to constantly be accusing Democrats of having “secret conspiracies” against President Trump, when the reality is that the only real secret conspiracy that exists is the one that has been going on for a while that is associated with the Koch brothers and others.
This secret conspiracy is made up of very wealthy individuals, a big part of the national Republican Party, a large part of the national conservative news media, many conservative think tanks, and other very conservative political groups.
Their goal and dream is to one day abolish all of the federal government social programs that help citizens of the lower and middle classes. They would love to abolish Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, college student loans and unemployment insurance benefits.
However, the one social program that they hate the most and want to abolish the most is Social Security. What they basically want to do is establish a “survival-of-the-fittest” social Darwinism in our country.
The book that does an excellent job of detailing the parts of this secret right-wing conspiracy is Jane Mayer’s “Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right.” It was selected by The New York Times as one of the 10 best books of 2018.
To my knowledge, no one has ever been able to successfully refute anything that is in this book. In addition, Ms. Mayer has been a winner of or a finalist in at least 12 awards and prizes in journalism.
Every American should read this book.
I want to make it clear that in my own personal opinion, most everyday Americans who are Republicans do not favor abolishing all of our federal government social programs that help people as these people do.
