Grocery store dispute breaks the lotto bank

Posted

The woman working the counter at High Ridge Candy & Lotto had a rough morning Oct. 28 when police say her attempts to calm down an unruly customer turned into a violent assault.

Police say the 47-year-old woman asked an out-of-control customer to leave the 5818 Broadway convenience store at around 7 a.m. Instead, the customer elected to hit the clerk over the head with a lottery ticket scanner.

Emergency medical services arrived on scene and treated the victim, who had some cuts and bruises from the attack. Police, meanwhile, arrested the 32-year-old woman they said attacked her.

In addition to a felony assault charge, police say the tough customer also could be liable for the more than $200 in damages she caused from breaking the scanner.

Five Below? More like six to eight

Crime doesn’t pay, especially if you’re stealing from the discount store.

A man entered the Five Below store at 171 W. 230th St., on Oct. 1 a little before 4 p.m., heading back to the door with three phone screen protectors and three headphones — valued at $12.

The perp pulled out a syringe and threatened to use it on anyone who tried to stop him, according to a police report. It’s unclear if there was actually anything in the syringe.

Witnesses told police the man ran once he got out the door. Cops are looking for a Hispanic man, about 40.

Rims and tires rip-off

A North Riverdale car owner had a rude awakening Oct. 20 after finding her new car on cinder blocks.

The 50-year-old woman parked her 2019 Dodge Charger on the corner of West 260th Street and Broadway, in front of Van Cortlandt Park. By the time she returned first thing the next morning, police say crooks had taken all four rims and tires off her new ride.

Police valued the rims and tires at $3,500, making it a grand larceny case. They are still investigating, however.
