Looking for a little fun this Halloween season?

The parent association at P.S. 81 Robert J. Christen hosts its Spooktacular Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the school’s 5550 Riverdale Ave., campus.

For $35, a family of five has the opportunity to enjoy games, raffles, face-painting, and more not-too-scary activities while supporting the various parent association programs at the school.

Teachers earn math fellowship

Students are in good hands at local high schools, especially those who sit in classes with four teachers receiving fellowships from Math for America.

The Manhattan-based nonprofit founded by hedge fund manager Jim Simons provides funding, classes and support for what it deems to be exceptional math and science teachers across the city.

Earning fellowships through the program were Marieke Thomas, Joshua Ilany and Rachel Maizel from Bronx High School of Science, and Jamie DeMartino from DeWitt Clinton High School.

Middle school intro fairs slated

Elementary school students ready to look forward to the next step in their education are invited to the District 10 middle school fair at the Theodore Roosevelt Educational Campus, 500 E. Fordham Road, on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

There, parents and students can learn about their local middle schools, chat with representatives, and start making up to 12 selections of schools they want to apply.

The Mount finds hope at homecoming

As part of its 2019 homecoming weekend on Oct. 20, the College of Mount Saint Vincent continued its 18-year lecture series “Where Do I Find Hope” with guest speaker the Rev. Dennis Holtschneider.

The lecture series contextualizes current issues involving Catholics. This particular outing also gave Holtschneider a chance to dedicate the newly renovated Chapel of the Immaculate Conception.
