Judge sentences group who killed dad

Four people convicted of a gang assault that left a Manhattan father of two brain dead in front of a Kingsbridge restaurant in 2016 will serve time in prison.

That’s what Bronx supreme court judge Robert Neary decided Monday as the cost of beating Donnell Soto, 36, to death, during the early morning hours of Oct. 2, 2016.

Soto had been drinking inside Parrilla Latina restaurant at 5523 Broadway when he started arguing with Jenny Gutierrez, 25, according to Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark. Security guards put an end to the dispute, and Soto walked away.

Gutierrez, however, was not ready to move on, according to  the courts. Instead, she told three men — Joel Hernandez, Kendall Guillory and Jariel Pichardo — to attack Soto.

Gutierrez hit Soto with her coat, getting a push back in response. Soto was then punched, and video of the incident reportedly showed all four punching, stomping and kicking Soto in the head.

Soto was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, and was declared brain dead two days later. He was taken off life support Oct. 20, 2016.

Hernandez and Pichardo were sentenced to eight years in prison with five years post-release supervision. Guillory was sentenced to seven years in prison with five years post-release supervision.

Gutierrez earned a sentence of six-and-a-half years, with five years post-release supervision.

All four were found guilty of first-degree gang assault last September.

Shea sworn in as new NYPD commissioner

Former 50th Precinct commander Dermot Shea is now officially New York City’s top cop.

Shea was sworn in as the New York Police Department’s 44th commissioner on Monday, replacing James O’Neill.

In a speech after the swearing-in, Shea briefly talked about his time leading both the 50th and 44th precincts, as well as other jobs he held with the NYPD.

“There would be many assignments over the years, but there was always one common denominator in all of them,” he said. “I genuinely thought that, wherever I went, I would never work with finer people.”
