Edith Cornfield, 91, died at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, due to multiple causes for her age.

She was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and came to the United States at 10 with her family.

She lived in Riverdale for more than 60 years with her husband Melvin and children. She was a graduate of The Juilliard School as a pianist, and obtained a master’s degree in music from Columbia University.

She was an active concert pianist, taught piano, and conducted classes for adults on listening to the classics at New York University, Juilliard and Riverdale.

She volunteered at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and loved lounging under the sycamore tree at the Riverdale Yacht Club, watching the Hudson drift by, and children doing what they do.

Melvin, her loving husband of 68 years, along with her two children Daniel and Deborah and their respective spouses Hedy Weinberg and David Alexander, and her beloved grandchildren Hannah Cornfield, Laura Alexander, John Alexander and Julie Claire Guest, John’s wife, are grateful and enriched for having lived with her.
