(re: “Maybe driver’s licenses for all?” April 18)
I am in 100 percent agreement with the recent letter from the NYCD-16 Indivisible leaders. If you want to see safer driving on the roads and streets and limit the forcible separation of parents and children, then you need to back a bill giving undocumented immigrants the opportunity to earn a driver’s license.
Because it is imperative for them that they drive (i.e., to travel to work or to take their children to school), these immigrants can’t help driving without licenses or with fake licenses.
If pulled over by the police, they are jailed and soon deported.
If instead they could work toward earning a driver’s license by taking a driver education course and passing a written test and with a road test, they would be safer drivers.
This is a no-brainer. Let’s get this done.
