Little League, big parade

A crowd nearly 400 strong rang in the new season with balloons, banners and baseballs.

The North Riverdale Baseball League held its season-opening parade under the warm light of a spring sun. The route started at West 260th Street, traveling down Broadway to Sid Augarten Field.

Local elected officials — including state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi, Councilman Andrew Cohen, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, city comptroller Scott Stringer and U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel — offered well wishes on a climatically auspicious opening day.

Kids, parents and politicos decked in team apparel and Americana cheered as Noah Lieberman threw the first pitch for baseball and Kelly Zarnitzky for softball.

The phrase on everyone’s lips was, “Play ball!”
