A man was killed in a three-car accident that shut down northbound lanes of the Major Deegan Expressway early Wednesday morning.
Details are sketchy, but police say a 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-300 sedan was stopped in the right travel lane of the Deegan near West 238th Street just before 3 a.m., Sept. 25, when it was rear-ended by a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier. The Cavalier was then hit by a 2012 Porsche SUV.
The 53-year-old man who was driving the Cavalier was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital on Third Avenue, where he later died. Police have yet to identify the man pending family notification.
A 23-year-old woman who was sitting in the passenger seat of the Mercedes along with the 49-year-old woman driving the Porche were both taken to St. Barnabas, where police say they are in stable condition.
No arrests have been made, according to a spokesperson from the New York Police Department, but the investigation is ongoing.
