More apartments slated for Broadway

Posted

Big changes are coming to the corner of Broadway and West 251st Street where a single-story corner retail lot has languished in recent years.

KR Design Group of Rego Park has filed plans with the city’s buildings department to construct a seven-story building at 6201 Broadway.

Plans call for a mixed-use structure with 3,200 square feet of commercial space, 14,800 square feet of residential, and just under 5,000 square feet for what the developer is earmarking for community use.

The property was purchased late last year by Mashbloc LLC for $1.68 million, according to city property records. The group appears to be fronted by Baki Celaj, a longtime partner with the Bronx development firm Celaj Management Corp.

The 22 proposed residential units would average 670 square feet, according to initial plans filed with the city.

A demolition permit for the property was issued last February.

Deadline looming for service academies

Incoming district high school seniors hoping to attend a U.S. service academy have until Nov. 30 to apply, according to U.S. Rep. Adriano Espaillat.

Congressional members can nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies, including the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland, the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point.
