No 1 trains north of 96th Street this weekend

Posted

Getting in and out of this part of the Bronx will not be easy this weekend as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is completely shutting down the 1 train north of 96th Street.

Beginning at 11:15 p.m., on Friday, and running through 5 a.m., on Monday, June 3, MTA will limit 1 trains to between South Ferry and 96th Street in Manhattan. No trains will run between 96th and Van Cortlandt Park-242nd Street.

Instead, straphangers will have to depend on shuttle buses, the M3 and M100 buses, and the A and C trains. Buses are expected to run along four routes,  with transfers recommended with the A train at 59th Street, 168th Street or 207th Street.

All of this is because of ongoing track and switch maintenance neaer 125th Street, according to the MTA.

For travelers using the A train from Manhattan, uptown subways will skip Spring Street, 23rd Street and 50th Street because of station maintenance. Alternatives are to use downtown local A trains, or either the C or E trains, when running. That closure starts at 9:45 p.m., on Friday, and runs through 5 a.m., on Monday.
