Roughneck trio takes cash, jewelry

Van Cortlandt Park is a haven for runners, cyclists and park-goers year-round. But the vast green space and surrounding streets also has been the site of a variety of misdeeds — from car thefts to homicides.

A 27-year-old told police he hopped out of his car parked along Van Cortlandt Park South around 11 p.m., Oct. 24, when three guys suddenly surrounded him. One of them locked him into a chokehold and another hit him with an unknown object before digging into his pockets. They pilfered what police described as a Rolex gold ring, a red iPhone 7, a gold neck chain, his wallet, ID, and $300 cash.

The attackers fled west on Van Cortlandt Park South toward Broadway.

Police valued the non-cash belongings at $4,000, and are investigating the robbery.

Nocturnal gunslinger strikes near Vannie

Details are somewhat sketchy, but safe to say it was a frightening start to the week for a pair of young men traversing the moonlit western edge of Van Cortlandt Park.

They told police at least one gun-wielding attacker whipped out a weapon, threatening them at West 251st Street and Broadway a little after 10 p.m., Oct. 29.

The victims — both 26, according to a report — couldn’t describe the person who allegedly robbed them, other than they were packing heat.

The bandit reportedly made off with an iPhone X, valued by police at $899, an iPhone XR worth $750, and $115 cash.

It’s not clear whether any security cameras may have captured the stickup, police said, but they’re investigating the robbery.

Gleaming four-door goes missing

A gold Chrysler is the latest vehicle to join the ranks of cars reported stolen within the 50th Precinct.

A 44-year-old told police he parked his 2006 Chrysler Pacifica sedan — valued at $2,000 — on the 3800 block of Orloff Avenue in Kingsbridge Heights around 4 p.m., Oct. 21. But when he returned a couple hours later, it was nowhere to be seen.

With no cameras or broken glass to leave cops any clues, it’s another mysterious case closed. Nevertheless, police say, they’re on the lookout for the Pacifica.
