Schumer warns about vaping loophole

Think flavored e-cigarettes are on their way out, with the stroke of President Donald Trump’s pen? Chuck Schumer says to think again.

The U.S. Senator is warning new FDA guidance designed to ban the different nicotine vaping flavors many feel target kids is leaving room for manufacturers to return such products to the market — once they get formal approval from the Food and Drug Administration.

“There is no doubt that as the FDA finalizes a ban on kid-friendly e-cigs that the agency will be met with intense pressure by the industry to water it down as much as possible,” Schumer said, in a release. “So the message to the FDA today is: Do not cave.

“If we are going to tackle the all-out epidemic of youth vaping and the flavor explosion fueling addition and related health issues, the feds cannot go vanilla on a flavor ban.”

Marketed as an alternative to cigarettes, these “smokeless’ electronic devices provide the taste of nicotine — which vaping materials contain — but can also come in other flavors, like bubble gum, fruits, candies and mints.

Trump called for the ban after at least a half-dozen people died from what many people to be e-cigarette-related causes.

Biaggi endorses  Elizabeth Warren

State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi has made her choice when it comes to who she feels should be in the White House come 2021, and it’s Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.

Biaggi and Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou delivered the endorsements during Warren’s Sept. 16 rally at Washington Square Park.

“Now is the time to shape the Democratic primary,” Biaggi said in a campaign email. “By organizing, debating issues and donating to candidates you support, you can influence the primary dynamics.”
