Special props to The Leaf

To the editor:

(re: “Briar Oaks’ journey from speakeasy to making history,” June 10)

As a Briar Oaks shareholder, I was delighted to see that you found the colorful history of our property as fascinating as we do.

I also want to be sure your readers appreciate our celebration of the 200th issue of our resident newsletter, The Briar Oak Leaf, in which the history article appeared. In continuous print since 1996 — and written by an all-volunteer committee — The Leaf always includes a board of directors report which, we believe, in providing up-to-the-minute information on board and management deliberations and actions, contributes to the transparency and openness that make Briar Oaks residents feel informed and confident in the way our co-operative operates.

Mary Ann Rothman, executive director of the 2,300-member Council of New York Council of Cooperatives & Condominiums, made this comment in a recent phone call: “It’s wonderfully unusual. I don’t know of any co-op that has a newsletter for that long. I’m proud of you.”

Again, thank you for highlighting our milestone in your story.
