Police are looking for a man they claim tried to steal some appliances from the Target store in Marble Hill before his encounter with law enforcement became physical.

The man walked into Target just before 3 p.m., on Tuesday, according to officers with the New York Police Department's 52nd Precinct, and tried to walk off with a coffee maker and air fryer that he didn't pay for. By the time officers arrived, the man was already leaving the West 225th Street store.

When an officer tried to arrest him, the man pushed him to the ground, according to police, before running into a nearby residential building at 2811 Exterior St. The man apparently ran through the front lobby and out the back door, and then disappeared after that.

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital where his was treated for a fractured knee.

The man is described as about 40 years old, dark complexion, 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds. He also had a bald head. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored jacket, dark jeans and gray sneakers.
