Wave Hill's entrance work begins in June

Posted

An 18-month project is set to begin this June that will change the face — or at least the entryway — of Wave Hill on Independence Avenue.

Carrying a $2.7 million price tag, the new entrance to the popular garden spot will build a new admissions kiosk, as well as a separate entrance gate for pedestrians just south of the existing vehicle gate.

Work will carry into Wave Hill’s parking lot as well, where the number of parking spaces will remain the same, but the lot itself will be resurfaced.

A new entry path will take visitors directly from the gatehouse to Wave Hill’s gardens and landscape.

Beginning June 3 — and until Fall 2020 — on-site parking at Wave Hill will be closed. Off-site parking will remain open with regular shuttle service, and visitors can still use the shuttle service to and from Metro-North’s Riverdale station as well as the 1 train station at West 242nd Street.

During this time, Wave Hill members can exchange valid parking passes into guest passes for family and friends for special events.

Of the $2.7 million cost, $1.5 million is dedicated to construction with the rest toward design consulting fees and administrative costs.
