Don't think you're ready for winter? This talk could be big help

Winter is coming, and it’s making no secret of its arrival as the days get colder and colder.

The coronavirus pandemic has made staying inside the norm for many people — especially senior citizens. But how can our older and wiser population stay healthy and happy this time of year?

RiverWalk and RiverSpring Health say they have the perfect solution: A free online webinar that will help ensure these next few months are some of the best winter months ever lived.

The Healthy Senior Living webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. All anyone needs to attend is something to connect to the internet with and an open mind to some of the essential tips offered by panelists that include a physical therapist, a cook and a wellness coordinator.

Angelica Sibug is a physical therapist in the rehabilitation department at RiverWalk, the senior independent living apartment community overlooking the  Hudson River along Palisade Avenue. During the webinar, she’ll focus on teaching balance and safe walking during inclement weather like rain and snow.

James Iatrou is an award-winning chef and food services director for RiverWalk, and has been part of the community for 13 years. He’ll provide some healthy, hearty recipe ideas he says are not only delicious, but easy to prepare.

And finally, Debra Rodriguez will share exercises that can be done at home. She’s a wellness coordinator at RiverWalk, where she leads wellness and exercise activities for the residents there.

They’ll also answer audience questions.

Michael Hinman, editor of The Riverdale Press, will moderate the webinar on behalf of Richner Live.

To register for free, visit RiverdalePress.com/webinar. For those who can’t join live on Dec. 9, register to get a link to a recording of the webinar.

Participating does require a computer or mobile device with the Zoom online videoconferencing app installed. The software can be downloaded for free by visiting Zoom.us.

Audience members are free to ask questions of the panelists in advance when they register, or wait to ask them live during the event itself.
