LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Who should we listen to?

Posted

To the editor:

“In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry and white supremacy,” our president told us on Aug. 5. Does he or his speechwriter want us to listen to his words, take them to heart, and act on them?

Does his chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, want us to listen to those words, take them to heart, and act on them?

If yes, why do Mick Mulvaney and others among Republican lawmakers tell us that it is outrageous to believe that some people — among them folks who own assault rifles — also listen to, take to heart, and act on other words that he has uttered, time and again, that openly or in thinly disguised terms, exhort people to act violently toward others?
