WWII vet, executive Seymour Phillips, 96

Seymour Phillips, a longtime resident of the Bronx, sadly passed away on Nov. 5, 2020. He was 96.

He was born June 20, 1924, in Harlem, to the late Sadie and Max Phillips. After graduating high school, he went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

After his honorable discharge from the military, he took a job with a textile company, working his way up from mopping floors to being one of the top five executives in the company.

He was an avid poker player and reader. Anyone who knew him also knew how much he loved sports, especially the New York Mets and the New York Jets.

He is survived by his devoted children Margie and Andrew (Susa Alcami); his devoted grandchildren Sara (Prince), Noah, Nema and Jaya (Erica); and his adoring great-grandchildren Nasya, Aysha, Tafari, Odin, Finley, Zoe, Kebra and Sofia.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Aileen, as well as siblings Lillian, Faye, William, Sol and Arlene.

A burial was conducted at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla under the direction of Weinstein Memorial Chapel in Yonkers.

Memorial donations can be made in Seymour Phillips’ memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or to any veterans organization.
