50th Precinct investigating second weekend murder

Victim identified, cops looking for suspect

Posted

For a precinct that typically keeps homicide numbers in the single digits for an entire year, it was a violent weekend for police in the 5-0.

Just an hour or so before a 28-year-old man was fatally stabbed on Sedgwick Avenue, two men were shot at 5240 Broadway, with one dying Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at 8:45 p.m., to the area around Marble Hill Houses, across from the C-Town supermarket. There they found a 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head, and a 20-year-old with a gunshot wound to the left leg, according to the New York Police Department.

The 30-year-old — identified as Keith Bailey of 5360 Broadway — was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital on Third Avenue, where he died two days later. The younger man was taken to Jacobi Hospital on Pelham Parkway South, where he is in stable condition.

No arrests have been made, and police have yet to share the identity of the 20-year-old.

Police do have a person of interest they're looking for. They are seeking the public's help to find who they are describing as a black male, approximately 25 years old, who stands 6-foot and weighs 200 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a dark blue hoodie and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call the New York Police Department's Crime Stoppers hotline at (800) 577-8477. Tips also can be submitted at the Crime Stoppers website at NYPDCrimeStoppers.com, or by texting tips to 274637 and entering "TIP577."

All calls, police say, are strictly confidential.
