Officials champion Rosey’s

After a landlord gave Roosevelt “Rosey” Spivey 30 days to close his barbershop at Marble Hill, two local officials are joining the fight to keep the neighborhood establishment open.

State Sen. Adriano Espaillat and Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez, whose Upper Manhattan districts include parts of Marble Hill, called on landlord Abraham Rosenstock to change his plans.

“It is perplexing why a successful business run by a neighborhood role model for over 50 years would have its tenancy terminated,” the officials wrote on Jan. 22. “We look forward to working with you on ensuring that a renowned establishment can remain at the location [where] it has thrived since 1962.”

The missive followed the creation of a Moveon.org petition calling on Mr. Espaillat and Rep. Charles Rangel, who also represents the district, to take steps to save Rosey’s.
