Celia Weintrob is new 'Press' general manager

Since 1976, Richard Stein has overseen the success of The Riverdale Press as a publisher, editor and writer, among many other roles. He recently announced he is stepping back from the duties at the newspaper and becoming publisher emeritus, while Celia Weintrob will oversee the business side of the publication with the dual title of general manager and advertising manager.

“I think Celia is the perfect candidate because, first of all, she is very community-minded and really understands community journalism,” said Mr. Stein.

Ms. Weintrob brings over three decades of experience in community newspapers in New York City.

She and Mr. Stein met at an American Press Institute event in the 1980s, when they both took an immediate liking to each other.

Ms. Weintrob went on to join the team of The Brooklyn Paper, eventually becoming the publisher and vice president of sales. In 2009, she and her husband Ed Weintrob sold the publication to News Corp’s Community Newspaper Group (CNG). Ms. Weintrob remained at the paper while her husband became editor and publisher of The Jewish Star, a property of Richner Communications, the same company that owns The Riverdale Press. After CNG was sold in 2014, Ms. Weintrob joined The Jewish Star as a freelancer selling advertising.

Mr. Stein and Richner Communications soon saw her potential as a leader at The Press.

“It seemed like a perfect fit for Celia to get involved with The Press,” said Mr. Stein. “She’s got a real advertising and marketing background.”

Ms. Weintrob will call on her background working with local merchants to serve the needs of the northwest Bronx business community.

“I feel like I really understand local merchants. I understand being a local business owner for many years. I really get that,” she said while discussing her professional background. “I really understand their problems in general, but obviously what we were focusing on is from a news standpoint of how to make things better in our community, how to shine a spotlight on things that needed fixing and changing.”
