City probes impropriety at IN-Tech

IN-Tech Academy, MS/HS 368 is currently at the center of at least four Department of Education investigations and a fifth one was recently closed.
IN-Tech’s former principal, Rose Fairweather-Clunie, is being investigated, although DOE spokeswoman Margie Feinberg refused to comment on why, citing “privacy concerns.”
Although IN-Tech made headlines in June after allegations surfaced that administrators were making students clean toilets as punishment, Ms. Feinberg would only say that the investigation of the former principal is for an “unrelated matter.”
The corporal punishment investigation is ongoing, but centers on another administrator, Ms. Feinberg said. Also under investigation is Dean Jackie Knowles, but in this case too, Ms. Feinberg refused to provide any details.
And that’s not all. The school is also being investigated for two separate incidents that occurred on what appears to be related to an eighth grade class trip to Washington D.C. in November.
One student was beaten and injured during a fight. The incident was investigated and another student was disciplined, Ms. Feinberg said.
Another incident occurred between two students on a bus the school chartered during the trip. Ms. Feinberg said the incident is being investigated and would not comment further.
IN-Tech Principal Yvette Allen declined to comment.
Former principal, Ms. Fairweather-Clunie, announced her retirement on Sept. 20 to the surprise of staff and students alike. She told The Press she waited until one month into the school year to leave because she wanted to make sure things started off smoothly.
