KRMH Food and Hunger Project offers aid

The Kingsbridge-Riverdale-Marble Hill Food & Hunger Project, Inc., offers supplemental groceries to those in need.

The Food and Hunger Project says that are seeking to help anyone who has experienced cuts in Food Stamps, the reduction in unemployment benefits, loss of a job, difficulty in choosing between money for food, housing and medicine.

The Food and Hunger Project also bags groceries for distribution through its local pantry, located at the Church of the Mediator on 231st street, between Corlear and Kingsbridge avenues.

The pantry is open Tuesdays from 9 to 11 am.

Participants are allowed to receive supplemental groceries once per month and need to show personal identification either through a food stamp card, driver’s license or a bill with home address. Assistance is available to those in need living in the 10471, 10463 and 10468 zip codes.

The Hunger Project also purchases and prepares the delivery of kosher groceries for homebound seniors in collaboration with the Riverdale Y Senior Center.

If you would like to volunteer your help at the pantry on Tuesday mornings or assist in packing the kosher grocery bags the first Thursday of each month, please call 718-796-7166.

Those seeking to contribute financial donations can send a check to KRMH Food & Hunger Project, Inc., P.O. Box 251, Bronx, NY 10471.

The project is accepting donations of canned and boxed foods such as healthy soups, cereals, meats, stews, fish, vegetables, beans, fruits, tomato sauce, rice, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, and evaporated milk.

Grocery donations are accepted at the following collection sites: Riverdale Presbyterian Church, Riverdale Temple, Christ Church, Ethical Culture Society of Riverdale and Yonkers, Country Bank and Wells Fargo Bank.

In addition, Congregation Shaarei Shalom, CSAIR, Congregation Tehillah, Curves, P. 24 and Riverdale Country School also conduct special grocery collections during the year.
