A customer fatally stabbed a Riverdale resident working at McDonald’s around 4:30 a.m. today in the parking lot of the 5765 Broadway restaurant, police said.

Adam Garcia, 28, the night manager of the McDonald’s, was taken to New York Presbyterian/The Allen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said they were still seeking the suspect, described as a clean-shaven, 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-7 dark Latino male with a tan jacket, blue jeans and burgundy hoodie.

The suspect was known to spend hours at a time at the local McDonald’s and had bought an apple pie and cup of coffee overnight, according to Capt. Terence O’Toole, the commanding officer of the 50th Precinct. He said after the victim had an unspecified discussion with the customer, the suspect followed him to the parking lot at the end of the employee’s shift and stabbed him several times.

Capt. O’Toole said authorities believed the suspect is homeless, adding that the NYPD’s Homeless Outreach Unit was assisting members of the Detectives Bureau and a Technical Assistance Response Unit on the case.

Capt. O’Toole said shortly after the stabbing, McDonald’s employees ran into the 50th Precinct, located paces away at 3450 Kingsbridge Road, and alerted police.

After an on-the-ground search for the suspect was not immediately fruitful, police were reviewing in-store surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts so officers could have a better idea of whom they are searching for.

“Once we have a good picture of him, we’ll have him [identified],” Capt. O’Toole said on Monday morning.

One regular McDonald’s customer noted that homeless people regularly use the bathroom at night. While Capt. O’Toole did not specify what Mr. Garcia said to the suspect before the killing, some news sources said Mr. Garcia sought to eject the man.
