A new mini-market has taken the place of the recently-shuttered Jay-Bar’s on Riverdale Avenue.
Ha-Makolet Shoshi’s Market, an all-kosher specialty food store, opened on Nov. 21 and already has some loyal supporters.
“It’s a supermarket that’s been needed here for 30 years,” Aaron Netburn, who had been to the market three times since it opened, said.
Lilach Bar, who found out about the market from a friend on Facebook, agreed.
“We’re very excited about this place,” she said.
Owner Uri Allon said most of the products in Shoshi’s, named for his wife and co-owner, are imported from Israel. He pointed out a refrigerated case brimming with fresh fish, baskets full of brightly wrapped candies and a shelf of packaged snacks. The market also carries fresh produce, salads, rice dishes, spreads, cereal, dairy products, coffee, tea, canned goods and more.
“More stuff will come in as we go along,” Mr. Allon said, adding that he plans to take recommendations from the community.
