Trail paving plan threatens wildlife

To the editor:

Thank you for printing Maya Rajamani’s piece in the Sept. 11 issue of the Riverdale Press: “Environmental agency delays approval of paving.”

In the article, I was quoted rhetorically asking if the wildlife would ever return if the trail were widened and hundreds of trees were removed. I did not mean to ask if the mature trees would ever return. That is not the point I was trying to make. The trees would be replaced with younger trees eventually. But when the mature trees would be felled, the wildlife would lose habitat, perhaps never to return.  The understory would also be destroyed, where wildlife feeds and hides. Thanks for noting the correction.
