Youth markets set to open

Community Board 8 (CB) teens are going green.

This summer, CB 8 residents will have a chance to buy their produce from high school students running several youth farmers markets.

The Marble Hill Youth Market, now in its sixth year, will offer fresh fruits and vegetables at its location on West 225th Street between Broadway and Exterior Street from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays, from July 10 through Nov. 20.

The Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) Teen Green Market will serve the Kingsbridge Heights area from its location at 3101 Kingsbridge Terrace, between Summit Place and Perot Street. It will be open every Friday from July 11 through Sept. 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Marble Hill’s market is a collaboration between CB 8, Bon Secours NY Health System, KHCC and Riverdale Neighborhood House (RNH), with the goal of  bringing fresh produce to underserved areas.

The markets are two of four youth-operated farmers markets in the area. The Riverdale Youthmarket is located at RNH and will operate every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. from July 10 through Nov. 20; the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park Youth Run Farm Stand, located in the train park at the intersection of Orloff Ave. and Gale Place, will run on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. from July 9 through Sept. 24.

Bronx CB 8 has been working closely with its community partners to provide easy access to fresh food in its neighborhoods, aiming to bring positive health benefits to the community.

All four markets accept cash, EBT, WIC and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program checks.
