Feds raid Spuyten Duyvil apartment looking for drugs

Federal law enforcement officials raided an apartment in Spuyten Duyvil this morning they suspect to be a narcotics packaging and distribution operation.

A task force from the U.S. Marshal's office out of New Jersey executed an arrest warrant for a woman at an apartment at 536 Kappock St.. When they got inside the unit, however, they reportedly found what they believed to be 20 kilos of fentanyl/heroin, according to a spokeswoman from the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor. 

That brought in the New York Drug Enforcement Task Force, which reportedly seized a large amount of narcotics, as well as a large amount of money and equipment used in the packing of narcotics. And there was a money counter, too, the spokeswoman said.  

Arrested were Aracely Ortiz and Jonathan Corona. No other details were released about them, but they are expected to be arraigned in a Manhattan criminal court on Thursday. .

Neighbors watched as law enforcement agencies carried out boxes and bags from the Kappock Street building after lunchtime on Wednesday, although some say feds were there as early as sunrise.
